About

I'm Vish. Sydney-based, senior estimator by day, side-project tinkerer by night, occasional reader of things that won't pass an algorithm test. I price construction work for a living and build software in the gaps. This site is the bit of the internet I own.

The day job

Senior estimator in retail and commercial fit-out. Tenders for shopfitters and fit-out contractors building stores for premium retail and hospitality clients. The work is half maths, half judgement, and increasingly half AI tooling I build myself. The CV-shaped version sits at /work.

The notebook

I take notes the way some people take photographs — constantly, mostly badly, occasionally one's worth keeping. Atomic ideas, lessons from tenders won and lost, takes I used to hold and don't anymore. The good ones become essays at /notes. The rest live in a private vault and that's exactly where they belong.

The build pile

A small portfolio of side projects, each useful to me first: scope-generation tooling for estimators, a roguelike submarine game, a portable AI assistant for construction sites. Most of them won't ship. The point of side projects isn't shipping. The point is the practice and the unreasonable amount you learn building things you actually care about.
